So last week during the Sundance Film Festival, the lovely Olivia Munn was hard at work doing some serious interviewing, when who should stumble across her path but Bill Gates. Although the Microsoft honcho is planning no big move into movies, he was there to promote a new documentary, Waiting for Superman. The film, described by one critic as “equal parts sickening, fascinating and inspiring,” focuses on America’s education system (a subject about which many questions desperately need to be answered).
The film has the perfect person at the helm: Directed by Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth), it has received a great response. The fact that it was the first movie bought at the festival was a good sign; Paramount did the honors. Ever since Capitalism: A Love Story, I’ve been itching for something like this to come along — with luck, Superman will fill the cinematic void left at the box office whenever a Michael Moore movie isn’t showing. Check out the video above for Gates’s thoughts about the festival, the film . . . and, of course, Olivia Munn’s Twitter! (more…)
