There are Psychics at Vanity Fair

With Tiger Woods seemingly topping every “Most Talked-About of 2009″ list imaginable (not bad for a story that didn’t break until after Thanksgiving!), it seems only appropriate that he would appear on the cover of Vanity Fair’s February issue. Of course, the best part is that Annie Leibovitz’s stark photos were shot before all hell broke loose and the golfer found himself a retire-the-trophy poster child for the man fallen from grace.

On the cover, Tiger, shirtless, surly, bulked-up and holding two barbells, is accompanied by the headline “The Mystery of a Sports Star We Thought We Knew” — probably not the caption he had hoped for when he posed for the shots all those months ago. Amusing as that is, though, Buzz Bissinger’s accompanying article is the jewel in the issue’s crown. Wonderfully scathing, it’s the most astute and hilarious take on a scandal marked so far mostly by a ceaseless parade of dreadful tabloid “investigations.” Yes, I know — enough Tiger, already! But if you can bring yourself to read one last article on the wandering Mr. Woods, make it this one.
