Love Letter to the Fans . . .

I've said it many times before, and I want to say it again: thank you.

I wouldn't have had any of the opportunities I've had (such as making this magazine) if it weren't for your support. When I started on G4, I made a decision always to try to be myself and stay true to my sense of humor and views. I know I can push the limits, be racy and edgy and (most of the time) inappropriate . . . so I recognize how lucky I am that you get it. That you get me.

As far back as I can remember, I've wanted to entertain and make people laugh and smile. I grew up in a big family with an asshole stepfather. Many nights all the kids (there are five of us) would hang out in our rooms trying to escape the screaming. That's when I first realized how much I loved making people laugh. I would impersonate teachers from school, act out entire scenes from movies (playing all the characters) and master pratfalls with the hope of creating an escape for all of us.

In interviews I'm often asked why I'm so close and open with fans. I understand the question. I understand that most people in the public eye don't send out e-mails to special groups of fans (in my case, OMFG — the "Olivia Munn Fan Group" — on my blog, OliviaMunn.com) inviting them to hang out, take pictures and just say hi. I understand that's rare and not expected, or even necessary, to be successful in this business. So why do it? Because it's my way to say thank you. To show you how much I truly, truly care, and how deeply thankful I am to all of you.

Of all the interviews I've done, I was especially touched by one in particular. Out of it came Playboy's description of me in the article from my cover issue:

"She's not royalty like Angelina or Nicole, not a train wreck like Lindsay or Britney, not a brazen attention seeker like Perez or Ashton. She's just Olivia. . . . Instead of building a wall between herself and her fans, she uses the immediacy of modern communication to obliterate that wall. . . . This lady doesn't want to be your idol; she wants to be your friend."

Thank you thank you thank you thank you for being my friend.

Oh, and remember: No eye contact, please. Kthxbye!
